Working hard, but still struggling

My name is Digna and I am from the Dominican Republic. I work as a home care attendant part-time and take care of my grandkids in the afternoons. I don’t make enough from my job to pay for rent and food, so my kids help me out by sending money every month, which is tough for them, because they also work jobs where they don’t make a lot of money.

I have applied for food stamps, but it’s a long process and I’ve struggled in the meantime. Make the Road has helped me fight for the services I need to stay in my apartment and not put an unnecessary burden on my family.
