My name is Angela Humphrey. I’m a leader with ONE Northside in Chicago. When I was 22, I was diagnosed with a learning disability. My disability prevents me from working. I receive SSI benefits. I get less than $750 per month, which is below the poverty line. This money pays my rent, which is $580/month. I do not have low-income housing. Medicaid helps me pay for my medications. I cannot afford any cuts to my SSI payments or to Medicaid. We need to strengthen these programs.
