My name is Amador and I am from Cuba. I have diabetes and a neural disease in my legs. I have been on SSD for a number of years. While SSD is very important for my month-to-month living, it is not enough in New York where the cost of living keeps going up and up. Between rent, food, transportation and sending money back home to family in Cuba, I can barely keep up. I certainly cannot spend any money going out, buying new clothes, or even buying supposedly healthy food that is more expensive. It feels just like the workers I see who are making minimum wage can barely afford to support their families after working so hard week after week.
We need organizations like Make the Road that are supporting people in the community and providing services that are free. This is why I am here, and have been for over 10 years. Fighting for a better life.
