I am Dina and I live in Bedford, New Hampshire. I was employed as a Speech Therapist but when I was pregnant with my first son, I took time off work to care for him when he was born. That was about 5 years taken out of my work. When my second son was born, I took time off again to be with him until he was four years old. Although I was able to work part-time, I didn’t accumulate credit that counted towards my social security. When my son was in second grade is when I got back to full-time. I figured out I lost about 10 years caring for my kids which meant that I would have less in social security. This is not only my story but the story of many women who can’t afford childcare.
